Visit the New ELA Website!

NIM's Early Learning Alliance has launched a new website.  The site, designed with child care providers and parents in mind, can be visted at ela.nimphilly.org

"Our new website has something for everyone in the child care field," said Annette Freeman, ELA Director.  "There is information about the programs we lead, as well as links to resources available to providers and a calendar of workshops and other training events.  We believe this website will contribute to NIM's efforts to improve quality early education throughout Philadelphia."

The ELA website is part of expansion efforts, partially funded by the William Penn Foundation, that have seen the program reach far beyond its historic footprint of northwest Philadelphia.  ELA now impacts one in eleven preschool children in every corner of the city.

The meaning behind Mt. Airy's Walking Together mural.

When the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement (NIM) began work on a mural in 2009, they knew that the imagery would have to reflect their work in the community and their support for the diverse surroundings that is Mt. Airy. The organization partnered with the Mural Arts project and worked with artists Paul Downie and David Woods on the conception and design of the mural. Members of the over 60 congregations were involved in the project and helped paint and design ceramics that would cover the wall on the side of the NIM building at 7047 Germantown Avenue. Bessie Jordan-Byrd, Interim Executive Director of NIM, worked extensively on the project and is still so moved by the images 2 years after the mural was conceived. “Every day when I see it, it’s a reminder of what a wonderful community that we have,” said Jordan-Byrd.
